Unfortunately, my dear, nobody entirely knows exactly hat a 'furry' is, because there is no specific definition. Sure, there's the entry Wikipedia has, but a long encyclopedia article hardly constitutes the terse definitions of Merriam-Webster.

What can be said, though is this: a 'furry' can be either an artist or a depicted subject. Accordingly, one who draws animals with varying degrees of bipedal, sapient qualities, and depicts them erotically, or even in outright sexual situations. Sometimes even more 'fringe' interests are added in; or, the subject itself. So anthropomorphic character depicted sexually is a furry, just as much as the artist is for drawing it.

'Furfag' is a pejorative term that broadly is used in place of 'furry' for both definitions, though some people prefer limiting it's use to male-homosexual content and the artists who draw it. Until these terms are given true, *concrete* definitions, it will be quite contextual as to their use.

However, my dear, you qualify as neither, having never been depicted erotically or sexually; by corollary, neither is your artist. I'm writing a paper on this, so I'll contribute a li'l.

'Furries' are a broad classification of a group of people who like the idea of anthropomorphism, attributing human characteristics to non-human objects. A furry is not necessarily one type of person, as there are artists, collectors, fursuiters, spiritualists (sometimes native americans fall under this category), people who deem it part of their sexuality, and sometimes it's just considered a haven group for the ridiculed and misunderstood.

Because of this last category (and even the last two categories), it attracts a lot of attention they normally wouldn't want. Someone who hates them for being gay, as an example, would also now attribute that hatred to being a furry, or 'furfag'. Because of that, the fandom in its entirety is often hated for the members within, much like one might hate a race for an individual's actions. However, this does not make being 'furry' a race, any more than it makes being 'gay' a race.

Simply put, some people only half-grew-up, so wish to enjoy their humanoid character cartoons and their porn at the same time. Plenty folk can make fun of that. After all, we're all free to hate. :P
